Go Au Pair – Utah

For Au Pair and Host Families

About

My name is Erin Mortensen and I am the Local Area Representative for goAUPAIR in the Salt Lake City/Park City/Weber/Davis area.  I live in Layton, Utah, with my husband Cody and 1 year old son Cohen.

We have a great cluster here in Utah of young adults ranging from 18-26. Au Pairs coming here to Utah are from all over the world. Au pairs provide childcare for a host family for up to 45 hours per week, and no more than 10 hours a day.  In exchange, they receive room, board and a weekly stipend (which is determined  by a formula that is based on the federal minimum wage).  The current stipend is $195.75 per week for the standard au pair program. The program has an educational component, requiring the au pair to complete an equivalent of 6 credit hours at an accredited post-secondary school.  This requirement must be met before an extension may be granted.

Additionally, the host family pays a placement fee to the agency and contributes to the cost of education.  These fees may vary by agency, but the minimum stipend is mandated by the Department of State.  Here in Utah, the Host families get a local discount for program fees, so instead of an average of $341 a week it is $322 a week.

As a Local Area Representative, my responsibility is to support all my Host Families and Au Pairs, all year round, in anyway that I can.  Some of the responsibilities include monthly contacts to every Host Family and Au Pairs, as well as offering fun activities for all the Au Pairs, to meet each other and gain a great cultural experience.
